We feel that the technical quality of the sound should not take a back seat to the picture. The most important step we take to insure excellent quality audio is to record sound using a directional microphone rather than a lavalier mic. Although the sound quality that lavalier mics capture is truly remarkable, they just can't compete with the dynamic range captured on a larger, full bodied, directional microphone.

So, we typically record using a directional KMR 81 Neumann microphone just out of frame, mounted on a boom pole. This ensures that the audio subtleties of the performance are clearly recorded, giving your audience all the nuances you are trying to convey.

Sound effects can be a great aid in creating atmosphere in your film. They can add an authenticity to a scene, heighten emotion, and be used to foreshadow events. Where appropriate, we incorporate sound effects from our 40 CD Sound Ideas sound effects library; as well as sound effects that we record on location.
